GPU infrastructure and AI cluster planning

APPAI Consulting supports GPU infrastructure planning for enterprise AI and proposed AI data center projects, including opportunities in Bulgaria. Planning starts with workloads and operating requirements, then connects compute, network, storage, power and cooling.

Discuss your requirements

Workload requirements before hardware selection

Training, fine-tuning, batch inference and interactive inference have different requirements. A design brief should specify model and data characteristics, throughput or response-time targets, concurrency, growth assumptions and availability needs. Representative measurements are more useful than selecting hardware solely by nominal accelerator performance.

The cluster is a connected system

A GPU cluster combines accelerators and hosts with interconnects, storage, software scheduling and operational tooling. Network and storage behavior can limit useful compute performance. The architecture must consider compatibility, scale, observability and how workloads are scheduled across the available resources.

Power, cooling and facility constraints

The facility must support the selected equipment and rack configuration. Power and heat-rejection planning should distinguish utility input, facility overhead, IT load and rack density. Cooling requirements depend on equipment specifications and deployment conditions; a design assumption is not a confirmed site capability.

On-premises, hybrid and hosted capacity

Compare deployment models against data boundaries, workload variability, procurement lead times, operating expertise and total cost. A useful comparison includes utilization, networking, storage, software, support, energy and lifecycle costs. Neither owned hardware nor hosted capacity is universally the better choice.

What an architecture engagement should resolve

The engagement should establish a requirements brief, candidate configuration, sizing assumptions, dependencies, risks and a validation plan. An initial discussion is most useful when it includes the workload, expected scale, data constraints, existing environment and the decision deadline.

Common questions

Does APPAI offer GPU rental or available GPU capacity?

This page describes infrastructure planning and architecture support. It does not publish a GPU rental catalogue or claim immediately available capacity. Contact APPAI to discuss a requirement and the appropriate engagement.

How many GPUs does an enterprise AI project need?

There is no universal GPU count. Requirements depend on the model, workload, concurrency, performance target and deployment approach. Sizing should be validated with representative measurements and stated assumptions.

How does GPU planning relate to AI data center development?

Compute requirements inform rack density, network design, storage, IT power and cooling. These requirements need to be connected to site and utility constraints so that the facility concept and workload plan mature together.

GPU sizing, density and cost: state the assumptions

Size against measured workload throughput, concurrency, latency and memory needs. Model weights, intermediate activations and runtime overhead compete for memory; adding accelerators may introduce communication overhead. Compare configurations using representative tasks, not a nominal GPU count alone.

Rack power density is an equipment and deployment requirement, not a universal AI number. NVIDIA's DGX GB rack documentation describes liquid-cooled compute trays alongside air-cooled networking and storage components. A liquid-cooled compute choice therefore still needs a complete heat-rejection and residual-air-cooling design based on the selected system specifications.
